I thought I would make a comment about the new hair skirt that came in for my shop bot... first I used the old skirt to drill holes in the skirt,(skirt had two sided tape) so that I could use the holes in the dust cover...
the old type was hard on the foam board..( it put scratches in the foam)... this new hair skirt is 10 times better than the old skirt.. would recommend everyone ordering one from shop bot... it picks up saw dust a whole lot better.
message for shop bot would put this as standard for shop bots...
for the price it is well worth the investment..

How about post some pictures of the new dust skirt. I have heard descriptions of them that are so vague I cant see what is being shipped with the new SB's.

Thanks

Mr. Swift: I left my camera at home... best way to explain it is like the hair you see on tractor trailers wheel skirts.. the hair is about 4 inches long... heavy and thick.. will be next week before i post pictures.
makes the shop bot look much more impressive.. did not know the new ones came that way.

Mr. Swift: I have a cyclone dust collector, with the old skirt I had to clean off the table every time I changed parts or added new wood. I have been running parts this morning no dust or chips laying on the table.. the hair skirt is way better than the old plastic skirt.. had I known that the hair skirt was this much better would have been using it a long time ago.. just in time saved cleaning up has paid for it in one job.
at about $1.25 a inch it will save that much in labor in one job.

I was just presuming it was part of the "new standard issue". Did you get the skirt from shopbot? Is it listed on their website somewhere?

The one is use is from KentCNC and I like it a lot, but its not specifically for a shopbot. It works great as long as the entire skirt is over the sheet. If part of the skirt is off the sheet chips go flying. Not bad, but I would love to see a version like the Gary Campbell design where the skirt just goes around the bit produced at SB. That would probably be the best of all.

If you didn't get it from SB .. where?

Thanks

Mr. Swift; contact Frank at shop bot at frank@shopbottools.com (http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/yab-fe/mu/MainView?.src=neo&themeName=purple&stab=1344280533944#)
How I installed my new skirt was to take the old skirting and i used it for the drill pattern for the holes.. then I pulled the tape of and screwed it to the dust collector.. so far I have been running one part out of wood all morning, with no need to drag the vaccum hose over at all.. I am totally loving this new hair skirt.

The plastic is a double layer. Is the bristle a double layer, also?

the actual hair skirt is single layer, however the thickness of the hair is as thick as the old skirting... there are multi layers of hair on the one strand.
it creates a better seal around the bit, forcing the air to be pulled down around the bit thus aiding in picking up more dust and chips with the dust collector. i have been cutting part out of wood all morning, and I still have not had to clean off the shop bot table.

just in the time i am saving from cleaning has paid for the new hair skirt and shipping.

the hair skirting came with two sided tape stuck to the skirt for ease of installation however i recommend you drill the mounting holes.. makes for a nicer fit.

up date on the skirt.. After two days of running the shop bot cutting wood. I finally had to vacum the table.. went to get supper came back started the bot back up but forgot to turn on the dust collection system... two full days no need to drag out the vaccum hose... and i forgot to turn on the dust collection.

Are the new PRS machines coming with those? I have kent's dust shoe on my little home made machine, in both the long and short haired version. I can cut MDF and not a single bit of dust gets away.

I do not know contact Gordon at gordon@shopbottools.com (http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/yab-fe/mu/MainView?.src=neo&themeName=purple&stab=1344392771152#)
he can answer your questions.. I just know that I produce more dust drilling 4 (1/8) holes in the ends of boards than two days of running the shop bot did.. Had I not forgotten to turn on the dust collecting system, I would not have had to vaccum up any dust.
