Our department got a big screen TV for displaying information and showing video clips, etc. in our lobby. We first asked the college's Physical Plant and A/V departments about mounting it on the wall, but that turned out to need a writ from god, so I set about building a free standing unit that holds the weight of the TV while keeping it secure enough to prevent it from ending up in someone's dorm room. Of course, it was also a perfect project for playing with the 'Bot.
The pedestal is an exact replica of other columns in the lobby (only shorter) and the case around the TV screen is based on the look of the stage in the theater that this lobby serves. The 3D carving at the top is a bas relief of our building.
