Mozaik Software

A few weeks ago, someone posted a brand "x" cnc machine that featured a new software called Mozaik. I've since looked up Mozaik's website and they are openly stating Sketchup is their drafting platform, and they (like myself) beleive this is the ultimate for woodworking and cnc, and they've used it to develop this program for production:

Looks like the method of pay is simply a monthly billing for the level of service you request. At $125/month for full features, it seems reasonable enough, even for a single person producer like myself.

I'm not well versed in the G-code and post processor lingo, though I rely on it to work for me daily. Seems to me the manual states the bot can run on this traditional G-code as well, but am concerned about how smoothly this software would interface.

Anyone else looking at this one or have any thoughts?

Personally, I'd rather pay once up front for it (like Aspire) and then pay a nominal fee for worthwhile upgrades. Paying monthly reminds me of my computer days working with mainframes where IBM charged monthly fees for everything. They fee'd you to death. :eek:

mozaik is written bt some same fellows who were responsible for some of our more powerfull (and expensive) cabinetmaking programs, i have taken a look and i own CW, CV, and a host of other software, this is going to make a place in the cabinetproduction world, the theory is it cost (full boat) the price of 1 foot of wall cabinets per month.

For that sort of money I would I expect they would write a shopbot post processor for you if you asked. As it's an open format I expect one will appear before too long.
Not my cup of tea as I think sketchup is great for presentations and visualisations but leaves a great deal to be desired as a CAD replacement.

I may be mistaken, but it looks to me like they are only using Sketchup for rendering/visualization.

If their product is as good as their initial marketing they'll likely do well. The support for a bunch of folks going through the initial learning or relearning curves all at the same time may be a heck of a lot more demanding. If I wasn't so "retired" I'd be very tempted.
