Columbo counterbalance

Have just got alpha motors mounted on year old PRT. New motor for Z has no gear box and much less resistance to movement than old motor. 5hp columbo spindle just drops to table. Do I need bigger springs? O some other counterbalance? Suggestions?

When I upgraded we used two coil springs to counter balance the Colombo. One large and one smaller. Got them from Shopbot. They balance out pretty good.
