Since I make cabinets as well as furniture, I do the odd counter top job as well - and have used a fair bit of solid surfacing over the years. Today I did a vanity top, that had a few extras - it's L shaped and also had a cut out section with an insert.
ANyhow, it would have been a case of template/hand router/etc before... now, I just drew the profile, offset by 1/8" and made the cut file. Used an Onsrud O flute spiral, at 11,000 rpm. Two passes (the material is 1/2" thick) at a conservative 120 IPM. Cut great!
Sorry forgot the pics...
But trust me it cut great! :)

Andrew - Do you have the Onsrud part # of the cutter that you used?

no but I can read it off the bit... it was one that came with my "starter" bit set, from Shopbot.
to my knowledge it is primarily for plastics. I never used it before, as this is the first "non wood" product I have cut on the bot. But it was really nice - no chips, easy cutting and nice coarser shavings (not dust).

Here is a shot of the counter, and a close up of the cut out.
Even though the counter is longer than 48" I cut it on my 48" by 48" Buddy table... who needs a bigger machine? Not me! :)

There is about 1/32" gap... it is very hard to see due to the color/pattern of the top material. You have to lift it straight up to get it out. Close enough for me :)
Yes it worked out for me the first shot. I drew the profile, and then used an offset to put the 1/4" cutter on one side of the line or the other. Plus a little clearance...

Yes Kevin the drawer is functional on the bottom. It is actually U shaped to go around the drain pipe which comes up through the floor near the back of the cabinet.
Inset doors do look nice - I dont do them a lot on larger cabinet jobs like kitchens (unless asked), since they are more time consuming to fit. But for stuff like this, or dressers, individual cabinets, etc I use them quite a bit.
