Get more than 6" on the Z

I was wondering about what might be involved in riseing the Z carage up to gain more Z cutting depth?
will the steper motors need to be changed out ect.... just thinking about it.

Mark, I think that Shopbot sells a whole z-axis replacement that can go up to 12" instead. It looks the same as your 6", it's just longer. As for modifying your axis, I don't know anything about that. If you had the money it sure would be easier to just order the longer one and swap it in. You could keep your old 6" one too and mount both to your machine and get a two-bit tool changer to boot...

As far as I am informed, ShopBot offers to add two more X rails to your shopbot. So, totally would be two rails on each side. That gives more clearance. That is all, what they offer for adapting 12" indexer.

Actually...it's both. 2 additional table sides and a longer Z-axis & T-rail.
