Hi everyone,

This is probably a dumb question but hopefully I'm just missing something.

I've scanned a part that I want to duplicate with the Digitizing probe. I started from a known point on the table to set my zero which was about a 1/2" away from the part I wanted to probe (a guitar neck).

The problem is when I opened the file in Partworks 3d to CAM it, it reassigned the zero to the first point of contact, something I don't want to do.

Any idea's what I'm missing here?

That sounds about right - what you really need is an upgrade to Aspire because doing it that way is frustrating, limited and disappointing.

What you will need to do is put some 'junk' down where you named your 0,0 point, so that when the probe starts it will pick up some of that data. If there is no data there, then the origin will be moved up against the part, like you are describing. You could also 'probe the table' up to the neck, but you will be left with a large flat area of noise before the neck and scan times will be much longer.

You can also make your material larger in either X or Y or both, and let PW3D machine the ambient areas in front of the neck, instead of confining the toolpath to the neck itself.

If you send me the SBP probe file in ZIP format, I can convert it and do what you want...Just take a screenshot of your part and tell me where you want & what you want between the part and your origin to space it correctly.

You can email me via: www.IBILD.com

Brady thank you so much. The idea of a trigger at the origin is an idea I was kicking around glad to see that would work! I'll mock something up
