I recently purchased a 3D model of a fish from VectorArt 3D and want to use it in a sign for a friend. I do not have Aspire yet and only have PartsWorks 3D which I know has limited capabilities. Is it possible in Aspire, or another 3D modeling software, to modify the length / width / depth individually? In PartsWorks 3D it appears I can only size it proportionally to the original model. I would be happy send the file to one of you and pay you to size it to my specifications if its possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Happy Holidays to All,

Hi Mark,

If you downloaded a V3M file from us you cannot scale that asymmetrically in PartWorks 3D but you do have some choices to solve the issue:

1 You can use Vector Art 3D Machinist (our free program) to toolpath it - this does allow asymmetrical scaling with a V3M file - it does not have all the bells and whistles of PartWorks3D but may be a solution. Download it from here: http://www.vectorart3d.com/machininst_free

2 You can download the STL file from the website instead of the V3M - see the section on this page entitled "Access to Previously Purchased Files" to see how to do that: http://www.vectorart3d.com/index.cfm/customer_resources.htm#AfterSalesResources

The down side of this is the STL does not have the nice built in boundary that the V3M uses.

3 We can also send you the model at a specific size (for an additional charge) as a custom job if neither of these options work for you. Use this page to get in touch for that: http://www.vectorart3d.com/quote

So we should be able to help you using one of these methods, please do not email the file to anyone else as our license does not allow them to be shared.

Thanks,

James,
Thanks, VectorArt 3D Machinist solved the problem. Curious though why that feature isn't included in PartsWorks 3D? The programs seem are very similar except for that feature.

Thanks again,
Mark

One other often overlooked solution is the scale option built into the Shopbot system. You can individually select X, Y, and Z proportions. This works very well with 3D files.

Mark,

It wan't offered at the time because vector art 3d and vectric where two different companies(now they are one) and it will only work with the vectorart 3d models.
