I am using Aspire software and I have hit a blank wall. If I have a dome shaped circle with about an inch of rise between the outside edge and the center of the circle, how do I set it up so when I cut text on the dome the text will follow the curve of the dome. Any insight would sure be helpful. It may be just me but I just can't make it happen. Thanks

Assuming you're doing a VCarve or profile toolpath you need to check the "Project toolpath onto 3D model" box towards the bottom of the toolpath setup.

Terry you can make the dome as a layer and add the text as a layer for better control to place it where it needs to be then make a tool path and look at the preview
This will give you better control
In Aspire just use layers, make the dome shape to fit your needs, XYZ. then make your text on a new layer, merge the text to the dome shape, you can re-size it to fit, if you still have problems let me know and I will make a video on how to do it.

The way i have been doing it supports what Adrian said. Although I am about 99% pleased with the results there are some issues at times where the cutting is not straight. So I am interested in seeing the results from what RG is referring to.

I was very dissatisfied with an attempt I made a while ago for a project I was doing. I actually put the project on the back burner because I could not get it to come out well. ( i was /am doing my design work in a CAD program because I am fairly familiar with it- and not with Aspire... and never got what I wanted in the way of following the curve and properly adding the lettering)

Sooooo- I will be watching the discussion closely. I will go back and make an effort to work the project up again in Aspire, rather than CAD...

Please keep the discussion going- as I am keenly interested in learning this technique.

Thank you in advance.

It's a different process if the original question was about 3D text on a 3D shape.

The process of combining 3D shapes together is covered in the Aspire tutorial videos on the DVD and the support site - http://support.vectric.com

It's incredibly quick and simple compared to a lot of other packages I've looked at.

2D text on a curved shape is even easier and is also covered in the videos.

Well the forum, in this case Adrian, came thru again. By checking the apply to 3d checkbox all my ills went away. Thanks
