View Full Version : E Chain Info Needed...
I have an older machine, and I would like to put on some E Chain to carry the cables from the Z across the Y.
I would have to carry the X and Y cable, the power cord to the router, and an air hose. (I cannot think of anything else...)
What Igus e chain works best? Width? Height?
Thanks

I did search.
The link you sent me is full of 8 year old posts. A lot has happened since then...
I was hoping there was a popular size of Igus E Chain that everyone has decided is the best?
I checked on eBay and there are so many different sizes... What height is required the allow an air hose to fit inside?
Thanks!

I have an older machine...-
Yes - a lot has happened since then...Like the PRS line of tools.
Old machine = Old posts. That's where the info is.
That thread is full of both energy chain and other options for the older PRT tools. ShopBot uses KabelSchlepp, not IGUS - but they both do the same thing. Roll the dice an make your best deal - it doesn't make a difference what brand you get. Just make sure the opening is large enough for the cables you need to get through it. In other words, a PRT with two 3hp spindles would need a larger opening than one just running a PC router.
When you find one that you think will work, go do a Google search (Suprise! actual work to be done on your part!) and track down the specs for it. You may have to goto the manufacturer's site to get the info. Find out what the opening is and what the minimum bend radius is. Also make sure you get 'ends' for whatever you buy so that you can properly attach & strain relieve the cables.
That should be about all there is to know to find what you need.

Thanks for the info. Just for the record I did search, read a bunch of threads, checked out a bunch for sale on eBay, went to the Igus web site... I was hoping for an answer that would recommend a particular inside dimension. I really do appreciate the info you have given me, and I will search and read a bit more before I buy something off the bay.

Thanks for the info... I did search and read through lots of threads. I guess the question I have is "What is the inside measurements of e chain that accommodates the Y and Z wires, a heavy power cable for a router, and an air hose." I see lots for sale on eBay, but I want to be sure I get one that will be large enough. Is 1 inch high enough clearance? 3/4" high?
Also Brady makes a good point about end clips for the chain... I was thinking about using 3M 2 sided foam tape, or even industrial Velco to hold it in position. Any other solutions if the ends are not included in the auction?

Richard My Y chain is 2.25 x 1 inside and the X is1.25 x 2 inside I would try to get end links with your chain because they have little fingers on them to use wire ties to hold the wires in place or maybe as it moves the wires could move inside the chains they move back and forth and could cause problems

Thanks. You find 2.25" is wide enough?

I have lots of room in there would be real easy to install the air hose you want with it
