When I go to the CNCZone I get directed instead to pages that warn about catching viruses by visiting the CNCZone.

Is this for real or what?

With so many subscribers to cnczone, it's hard to imagine that he isn't aware of the issue - it can be a real pain to deal with, once servers have been compromised.

As an update, I actually went to the site yesterday, from a sandboxed computer, and it did, indeed download a trojan when simply loading the page...

I have Kapersky and am no computer guru by anybodys standards, yet I visit the site daily and have yet to get anything from the site. how would I check other than the virus software?

How do you sandbox your pc?

You would see weird things going on. The comp will do things on its own.

ALSO:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Is a free "root kit" software.
It's very good.
Normal Antivirus does not find root kits that well.

FYI, this is the reason that Google gives for the warning. Note that they say that cnczone is NOT hosting the malware, but it comes from links posted on there. As always, be careful where you click!

What happened when Google visited this site?

Of the 2132 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 203 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2012-12-27, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2012-12-27.

Malicious software includes 72 trojan(s), 4 exploit(s). Successful infection resulted in an average of 2 new process(es) on the target machine.

Malicious software is hosted on 21 domain(s), including marylandbenefitsdirect.com/, eclnetworks.net/, consumesenhanced.pro/.

5 domain(s) appear to be functioning as intermediaries for distributing malware to visitors of this site, including eclnetworks.net/, journaldugeek.com/, axcessnews.com/.

This site was hosted on 2 network(s) including AS32244 (LIQUID), AS15169 (Google Internet Backbone).

Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?

Over the past 90 days, cnczone.com appeared to function as an intermediary for the infection of 2 site(s) including welderzone.com/, rfqwork.com/.

Has this site hosted malware?

No, this site has not hosted malicious software over the past 90 days.

Apparently, we're safe as long as we stick with our commodore 64's

ok how far you want to go back? 90's, 80's, 70's? I got you covered
from 5 megs to 16 in memory. The Amiga could do more with 16 megs of memory then a pc with a gig.

Best to not get into a "my first computer is older than your first computer" thing. Mine was a wire wrapped (by me) 8080A based (yes, thats before even the 8085!). Later wire wrapped computers I came up with used the S-100 bus.

I used to work on PDP-8's and PDP-11's where the program counter was a printed circuit board you could pull out and hold in your hands. You could "touch" each part of the CPU separately with your fingers.

If you have a true state of the art computer today (on the bleeding edge) its a "soft core" FPGA, or other such technology, and not available in stores. To get started with one of these gizmos- go check into:

http://opencores.org/projects

And one for fond memories..

http://opencores.org/project,cpu8080

Several ARM processors are available as VERILOG or VHDL code. Thats for the folks who are really into computers tho. Not the average shopbotter...

Where the geeks go to play today.

My first computer - in Jr High School - used a roll of punched tape to store the code. In college we handed a stack of punch cards into a little window, then waited hours for the printed output to come out, so you could find your errors, re-do the errant punch cards, and try again. What takes 5 minutes now would take all night.

There is a site to check for conficker problems. Look on the right side menu for test. There is also help for removing.

That's good. I thought he may have given up based on his rants about blaming Google for flagging his site. Maybe his bazillion advertisers pressured him to acknowledge and fix the problem.

Try it from Google Chrome. It blocks CNCZone because (in Googles words not mine) it's a "well known distributor of malware".

Ah, the Video Toaster was the whole package!! Those days were filled with adventure and excitement!

Joe,
When i was doing 3d stuff on my video toaster it would draw one line by line on the screen and I would watch that and think "is is so cool" and nowadays it's a thousand times faster. Back then we were concerned with model attributes like luminosity, viscosity, reflection, gravity none of which we need to concern ourselves with for what we do nowadays.
What did you do on your video toaster? I not only did 3d animation but all my video production and editing.
