I assembled my X rails today and mounted the Y gantry and while hand pushing it back and forth I noticed what I would describe as a buzzing or humming sound. (I can only push it as I have not received my Alpha motors yet. I should have them next week.)This could also be felt like a low pitched vibration. I looked closely at the X rails and noticed that the machining process left small ridges creating a serrated edge. I concluded that this was most likely causing the problem. I took my honing stone I use to sharpen my chisels with and after about 1 ½ hour of manual labor removed all the ridges on both rails.
This worked exceptionally well. The Y gantry moves smooth as silk now. It makes almost no sound and you feel no vibration. I think tomorrow I will work on the Y rails to smooth out the Z gantry.
