Hey guys, I need a little help. I am a big time homebrewer and am working on my man cave kegerator. I want to make some taps for my different beers. Here is what I was thinking.
Would like to buy the shaft portion of the tap. Then make a screw on square top with the Shopbot. I will do the design work in the square then screw it on the shaft. This will allow me to change beers in my kegerator easy. Where I need the help is finding the shafts. I am thinking something like you would use on a little pedestal. Something 4-6" long with dimension. If anyone has any links to where I can get something like this please post them. Thank you for any help.

I can get the ferrules at my local homebrew shop. It's the wood shaft part I am looking for. I tried looking at table legs but nothing in the 4"-6" length. The one I did find was $55 for one  little to much for what I am wanting. Does anyone know what else I could search for?

John,
Just design up a little paddle that you like, cut it on your bot, and then paint the front side with chalkboard paint so that you can change the name every time you change your keg.
You can get poplar and maple at big box stores or good lumber companies. ( They will cut better than oak, I think, and paint better if you decide to paint them)
I just got a kegerator and am planning a tap handle for it, too.

I just looked at the home brew web site. The taps seem to connect with a 3/8th threaded insert. You can get those at any hardware store. Then its a simple matter of making whatever handle that you want. Try local cabinet shops for scraps. I throw out stuff all the time and happily give it to people who want it. They are happy to get it and I am happy to not have to pay for the dumpster space to throw it away. You should also check with counter installers. I would think that Corian would make a really nice handle. They have sink cut outs that you can get for free. If all else fails, look into Craft Supplies USA, a woodturning company out of Utah. They sell all sorts of exotics for turners.

Question: Isn't 4" to 6" about the size of blanks that most 'turners' use? I would think that any turner supplier would have what you want and then use a 3/8th blind nut insert to mount it. Just a thought. Russ
