If I understand the principle of "closed loop" operation of the servo motors on the new PRT Alpha, the control box in effect knows where the cutting tool is at all times.
Does this negate the need for proximity switches?
Can you assign definite limits during machine setup?
...just curious as I ordered my Alpha upgrade this morning.

Stick with the switches. You can still experience the loss of home with a computer crash. It's happened to me a few times. Then you can run your home finding routine with the switches and finish out a file.

It will also prevent a manual, keyboard controlled, move from crashing into the stops ( or off the rails if you didn't install them )!
