This is actually over a year old article now but I just saw it and it blew my mind. It appears that SIP construction (Anyone remember the SIP cutting Shopbot?) has been taken to a whole new level.

I bet these guys are negotiating, if not already contracted, to build over here now.

I can just hear them over at the permit board... "You want to what?"

Might be easier than you think-That system has a guarenteed hurricane and earthquake rating as the panels are all internally steel re-inforced, so the engineering has already been proven, unlike standard SIP's that get their strength from the skin and still have no long term track record, although they have been approved in smaller structures. This is like a combo of SIP and prefab structure. Prefab is now going up all over.
My shop building was made from SIP's. It is very tight and comfy to work in. In the winter (when it goes sub-zero) the shop stays around 65 degrees. In the summer (when it goes 100+) the shop stays around 75 degrees. I have radiant floor heating that keeps it very comfortable. In the summer people have asked if I A/C the shop and they are surprised when I tell them no. It's just the way the building was built that keeps it constant temperature.
As far as standing up to wind and what not, the eave walls are 10' and the gable end walls are about 26'. The eave walls are 80' long with a western exposure (facing directly into the high winds). We have winds, summer and winter, in the 50mph to 60mph range (for days on end) and we have had no problems whatsoever with the building moving or shaking or anything. I love SIP's.
Another thing I forgot to add - when the shop was being put up, they had an 80' long wall up and ready for a cap plate in about 3 hours. PRETTY fast. A fully trained crew could have had all the walls up in about 12 hours and the trusses on the next day.
The crew that put up the building didn't have experience and worked under the supervision of a guy who had years of experience.

This same company built a 15 story hotel in 48 hours!
They have plans to build the worlds tallest building in 90 days!
There is a great show on YouTube about these guys, it's amazing stuff. They just stack and connect, stack and connect.

They should take a few more days to look things over to make sure it isn't going to fall down (http://www.engineering.com/Library/ArticlesPage/tabid/85/ArticleID/410/Ever-see-a-12-story-building-just-fall-over.aspx)

It seams that the main issue are the labor unions in the US.I'm sure they'll oppose anything that will speed production

There no doubt its faster the biggest problem with pre fab is where to put all the parts you need massive ware house space
They don't tell you how long a floor takes to make.
I doubt there claim of 9 vs. traditional steel no building can be earth quake proof it has to do with the soil and rocks not just simple shaking
Not that I don't trust Chinese safety standards
