Don't mow the grass when it is still wet from rain or morning dew...Then you won't have issues with grass sticking to the deck.

Get a lawn service to mow it for you. That solves the problem and makes the wife happy. Suddenly, you're the hero.

I was going to suggest that stuff...but it means that the underside of the deck has to be scrupulously cleaned...and I don't think you are going to do that. It might be cheaper/easier to throw out the deck and get a new one. It's tough stuff to get off - even a 4000 psi pressure washer has trouble getting off the oldest stuff.

You can always get a goat or two...:D

My mower has a hook up on the side for a hose. I've never used it, but supposedly you connect a hose, run the mower, and it cleans itself.

I have a John Deere 757 with a "7 iron deck" that doesn't accumulate gunk regardless of the condition of the lawn when I mow it. The pro line of John Deere mowing stuff is really top notch.

My JD zero turn doesn't accumulate it either...but the little JD rider used to if the grass was wet. Then again, I don't let it get 2' high before I mow it and wait until at least mid-day for the dew to burn off.

The hose attachment idea is cute...but they don't really work all that well.

I get a lot of build-up because most of my yard is weeds, and weeds have a lot higher moisture content than grass. It's a never ending battle, and the hose attachment is worthless.
