I have an elderly parent who has a problem with the dust and pollen in the house and I have tried some of the filtration options for indoors with these units you can set on your floor and they don't work good, and i was wondering if maybe one of these shop filtration units might be a better option? What is the sound output on these things?
I have a hall closet next to the bedroom i could mount this in and vent it outside if that might work?
5900 post! on the way to 6000, you think that might earn me a free hat by then?

Jack,
We use a "Living Air" brand of air purifier. We have used it for years. It ionizes the air. Sets on a table, dresser, or taller object. There are 2 glass plates and a small foam filter that need cleaning. Don't recall what we paid but it was fairly expensive. The noise level is good except when on high and there is a kind of loud whirring sound. There is no real need for it to be on high. It takes odors out of the room. You might want to ask to try one out for a few days. We have to turn ours off when our daughter visits. It gives her a headache.

I have one of those but found out recently that ionizing the air is bad for people who have COPD or breathing problems. That might be the problem for your daughter why she gets headaches...

I worked in a place that had to have an ionizer running and got head aches and couldn't take the smell. My partner thought they were the greatest until he used one in his motel room and found he was getting sick from it.

Jack...
You don't get credit towards a hat for any of your 5900 posts that have the words "free", "cheap", or "low cost" in them. There are 12. 8 to go and you get the $20 hat :D :D

My wife, who has asthma, cannot get anywhere near an ionizer! Those things are incredibly bad and should be outlawed. Nuff said.

I have a JDS Air Purifier which hangs from the ceiling of my shop. It works quite well in catching the particles that the cyclone misses. It is not an ionizer but rather has cleanable filters. I recommend it highly.

yes that is more what i'm looking for was air filtration and not necessarily ionization. I never thought they did much although those glass/metal(?) panels did accumulate a lot of dust from the air.

Gary,
I'll work towards that goal, but now that i think of it I bet you have a few shopbot hats laying around that you can't use anymore since you have moved on so you are free to send them to me...i'll take them even with the dirt and the sweat!:D

Hello Jack,
You might want to check here http://www.abatement.com/
We have a couple industrial units on our floor and work very well. Two stage filtering including a hepa filter. They do offer home solutions too.

My Mom is hyper sensitive to pet dander, pollen, perfume, and dust. We have found that this works wonders (http://www.amway.com/Shop/Product/Product.aspx/ATMOSPHERE-Air-Purifier-White?pwsid=cyberjetx&itemno=101076) and its quiet for what it does.
We use two in our house and one in hers. We have a 3000sq and have two dogs. She has a 12-1300sq and no pets.
I have tried others and they seemed ok to me but I don't have any allergies. Its the only thing that gave her relief when the pollen esp from the trees goes full pollen orgy! This one is the first air purifier certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly. Mom says that matters. :o
I almost forgot, it has a monitor mode where it increases flow based on air quality.
Full Disclosure: My wife is a distributer of these guys.
