What are some feed rates you guys are using for cutting oak wood. I am working with a 1/4" two flute end mill bit for some rough cutting of some 3D signs. I snapped off one bit this morning but want to make sure I have my settings correct. My depth was set at 0.25 - Do I need to change that or am I doing something else wrong.

I dont have an alpha so my move speeds are slower. However, I cut pine/oak/cherry/mahogany with a .25" end mill @ 4"/Sec, 13-16000rpm, my depth is .125.
I run my .125 rounded endmill at the same speeds for 3d.
purpleheart I backed down to 3"/Sec

Eric - I have a PRT Alpha with PC router. I usually cut Oak at 2 to 2.5 IPS at 19,000 rpm. If you are cutting .25" deep, start out at 2 IPS and then bump that up if you can.
When you can use them, the 3/8 endmills are much stronger with less deflection.

Thanks Brad - Good Idea on the 3/8"
