just installed a wixey digital planer gauge. really makes it easy to get the thickness you want the first time .accurate out of the box. had to make a custom bracket to fit my planer.

Totally aggree Dan but the brackets do take a bit of time to make up. Think you possibly got robbed though as ours was only $45.00 from Amazon???

I bought an Igaging brand digital gauge from Amazon for around $30.00 last year. It measures up to 12 inches. It has a very convenient remote magnetic base readout that can be located on the planer where it can be read while you adjust the depth. It has made the planer much more accurate.

I have had Wixey gauges, but I would recommend Igaging.

David the Wixley has a really nice extra feature. You lift up the foot, put a corner of your blank in there and it tells you its exact thickness.
