View Full Version : Not Sure What's Going On

I am working through the Vectric training videos on the open sign project.
I did a chamfer cut and then on the final profile cut set allowance offset of .15. As the attached pictures show it is off on both sides. Checked my vectors and they are correct.
Any ideas out there?

Anyone have any ideas?

Ken, I am no expert but I can say that I have also had a few issues with the offset function. I may be wrong but I remember correctly the offset acts differently depending on what cutter you are using. If I recall correctly a v-bit that would be used for a chamfer cut will create a tool path based on the point of the bit (center line). Whereas a end mill type cutter will create a tool path based on the diameter of the bit (compensate the radii). So, I think what you are seeing is that the v-bit is cutting offset by your .15 but based from the point of the cutter?

Rob,
You were correct as to my problem.
I went back and used a 1/8 mille end bit and it worked fine.
I used the suggested bit in the video from Vectric. Guess they can be wrong
Thanks for your help!!

Thanks Rob, I'm heading down that road soon too so this will be a save for me :-)

Kenneth, maybe you could do a bunch of future new learners a favor and send the file and pics to Vectric, if your time allows.
