....to preview a 3D sbp cut file (it's big) and let me know how long it would take to cut on the alpha. We currently have a 2000 model PRT and are trying to decide if we should upgrade to a heavy iron machine are the PRSalpha. My boss wants heavy iron and I am lobbying (hard) for the shopbot based strictly on support, this forum and the good people on it, and the fact that I'm to dang old to learn a new system.
Also, if any one is near Monroe, LA. with a PRSalpha and would not mine us paying a brief visit please let us know. My email addy is fhorrellatcenturyteldotnet.
Thanks
Frank

Contact Shop Bot they can put you in touch with someone close to you.. if it was me I would go with a spindle style by shop bot.. does not lose speed when cutting like a router does.
I can preview the file for you and tell you how long the program says.
my e-mail is eking1953@yahoo.com

Frank,
I have a PRT Alpha with the upgraded 7.2 motors and drivers. I can't cut an accurate 3D project any faster than 3 ips. Your PRT may come close to that.
Long straight cuts are a different story. I often cut those at 10 ips.
The 30 ips jog speed is impressive (if not scary); however, that might be as little as 0.1% of the cutting time.
I hope others will chime in here.

I have a very good customer in Massachusetts who has a 'big iron' machine. He ships lumber down to me to 3D cut because I can do it cheaper and faster on the Bot than he can. The light weight of ShopBot makes them faster than the larger tools on many jobs.
