I have Vcarve software and am wondering if I can create a routed frame on a 3D project using Vcarve or do I need Aspire software. Searched the posts without any luck. Also have not found anything on Vectric tutorials.

Ken, have you looked at the Vectric website? Look under the Support dropdown under Training Materials and then go to V-Carve Pro and look at tutorial "A07" and see if that helps....joe

Be a little more specific about what you are trying to do. Do you mean can you add 4 flat sides that look like they are connected with 45 degree angles or are you talking about making a 3d carved frame addition to a 3d carving?

This is the type of frame I would like to make with Vcarve or do I need Aspire?

I think you would need Aspire for that kind of carving. At least to model it. The ShopBot will cut it just fine, but I don't think V-Carve can create the toolpaths for the mouldings. You can always use a shaped router bit and a router table or just buy a nice frame.....joe

Aspire, ArtCam, or you could give the 'Extruder' tool in SB3 a try. Tools/Extruder. You would have to make one long piece of molding and then miter it to make the frame.
