I bought a 2007 PRS standard that was downsized from a 4x8 to a 4x4
and have been slowly getting it up to speed with a ChiCom watercooled
spindle and e-chain and T-slot bed. I am just starting to produce parts
and it seems to have quite a bit of slop in it. I am not sure if the 4 foot
extrusions with gears and track was purchased new or used- it was converted not too long before it was sold I believe.
I am getting .003 slop on one end of the Y gantry and about .012 on the other end- seems like gear wear? Also I can hear one X motor geartrain
click but not the other- although they both measure about .008.
I will be machining mostly HDU which will be sanded/painted anyway
but also acrylic plastics which need to be pretty nice out of the box.
I have to assume that gears wear over time- more-so than the tracks? Thanks for any thoughts Gene
BTW- I replaced all of the pinion gears already.
