I'm considering purchasing the subject matter software and am looking for feedback specifically:
1. Would I be able to import vector graphics from Shutterbug or other on-line websites.
2. Will I be able to manipulate the vectors imported.
3. Are various extensions available to be able to save my work and then import my work into the latest version of V-Carve Pro.

I thought about purchasing Adobe Illustrator, but I am only able to use it in their cloud, and pay a monthly or yearly subscription price. I'm not keen on having to pay a constant fee to use Adobe they are only interested in making money.

Mr. Gary: I use Corel Draw all the time, both for my lasers designs and to design and draw products for the cnc. I export as a eps, or dxf etc then import them into Aspire or Artcam. I started out using Corel Draw, years ago, I find Corel easier to manipulate vectors than art cam or Aspire. (mostly because that is how I learned to draw and I would love to be as good with Art Cam or Aspire as I am with Corel).. should you decide to go with corel let me know. I used to teach Corel to a group of laser users, and I can send you my lessons on Corel and help you use it.

my normal email is eking1953@yahoo.com

My question to you would be, why do you feel you need another vector program when you already have VCP? There is no 2D shape you cannot draw in that program. Corel in my opinion is clunky and a 1990s interface at best. I only use it from time to time to generate specific shapes using additional plugins I bought.

Stephen, as a note, Illustrator IS available for purchase. Now, you wouldn't know it by looking at the Adobe website, as they are heavily pushing the "Creative Cloud" that you saw. If you want to buy it, here is a link to the current version of Illustrator as offered on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-65165575-Illustrator-CS6/dp/B007S02Y6I

Maybe a month ago, I searched high and low all over the Adobe site before I could find their actual software on disk for sale. They are working to push only their future in "the creative cloud". But Adobe's website clearly stated that after their present "CS6" products, that they will only lease out their products over "the cloud". Maybe this is all marketing hype, but it was enough to make me move from my old CS2 suite up to CS6 so that I could actually own this, and keep me from having to mess with the creative cloud. It cost something like $1400, but I love Photoshop extended and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

You can also buy a copy of Adobe software that someone is not using and have the registration transferred to your name. I am NOT talking about bootleg or illegal copies, but rather a true legal transfer.
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/transfer-product-license.html
It is sometimes a bit tricky to find someone who is selling a real copy, but it can allow you to buy CS5 or 4 for a few cents on the dollar and they will do everything needed. The new enhancements are reay not needed for CAD
As people come and go from advertising or design businesses this software does get sold. Check eBay. Not bootleg copies but fully registered

I have corel X4 that I have to use with my laser. But, I use the Vectric software for drawing, editing and vectorization. I export it as a .eps file back to Corel for use with the laser.

Having a sign business we need to to use the fastest and easiest software to get the job done. My wife loves using signlab for design but she also goes to Vcarve or Aspire for vectorizing and node editing. We have not found anything better.

There will be many thousands of inventors, innovators, corporate designers, etc. who will move away from Adobe in droves. It's foolish of Adobe and all the others to think that we will believe their hype that our IP under development but not yet protected by patents and industrial design patents will be as secure on their servers as on our non-internet connected design computers. Think of the kid working at NSA who sees a drawing of something really groundbreaking on your computer and knows his old man or good buddy is struggling away on the same thing. I have a big investment in Adobe products but No thanks Adobe, I'll be leaving you.
