This is a continuation of the recent problems I have been having(http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18318), but they are intermittent and hard for me to nail down.

I just got to the shop and turned the bot on for the first time in a couple weeks (not much sidework and out of town for a week).

I did my usual: powered everything up and turned the spindle on to warm up, while I start laying out all my toolpaths in the other room. I heard the spindle kick off after the 15 mins or so, but then 20 mins after that I heard the relays kick off and the VFD powered down. I haven't even gone in there yet, but I am certain it will look like an E stop has been hit, but of course none has unless my shop is haunted and I am really not alone in here :).

any of you guys have any guesses of what may be going on? It has been doing this in the middle of cutting, but this is the first time it has shut down while idle. Maybe this is useful for troubleshooting. Somebody from my last post suggested that he replaced the boards and solved some of these types of problems. Is this something I should be looking into? What would be giving a false E stop warning?

I will get back to trying to nurse the project I really have to get done this weekend out of my bot, but I thought I may throw this out to the collective wisdom of the forum to assist me in diagnosing my sick bot. This having a "day job" really makes it difficult to get to the bottom of these things. especially when you only get to turn the machine on every couple of weeks. enough of my woes.

I appreciate any tips you guys might have for me.

thanks
Mike

It's ridiculous that I have just now got a chance to reply to this, but so it goes.

I am running version 3.6.10

We were troubleshooting the other night, and seemed to be able to replicate it by jiggling the wires for the prox sensors inside the box, but we couldn't consistently replicate it. Then that got me to thinking about the bonehead move I did a few months ago....I left my blow gun with long extension tube laying on the x axis E chain, and when I jogged home it curled the chain diving the tube into my wire trough which yanked the x axis proximity switch wire right out of the sensor body, so dumb. Even dumberer was that I ordered new switch from SB months ago and still hadn't replaced it, couldn't find the time in shop where I didn't have to humming. So I just replaced the x axis prox switch last night, and found that I must have also broke the Y axis wire. Going to order a new one of those today or try to find the break in the wire and splice it. But I am now wondering if a short in the prox wire could have been causing the intermittent problem I have been experiencing. So I am going to try running today with the prox switches totally disconnected and see if I get any false E stop hits today. Maybe if I get both switches back to working order I will be back in business.

Can't wait to get back in the shop full-time. I miss my bot.
