Has anyone got this error when loading ShopBot software? Run time error '6' Overflow. I figured it might be my old computer so I used my backup computer. After changing ports and sucessfully connecting to the shopbot and updating all the parameters I exited the software. When restarting the software, I get the same error on the second computer! Now neither computer will load the control software. I am dead in the water. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for?
Hi Stan,
Hmmm ... I'm assuming you have just loaded Sb3.8.8 ...
If so, let's give it another try and just start by making sure that there are no pre-existing parameters from the previous version that are creating an issue. If you are in Win7 or Win8, go to the ProgramData folder on the C: drive (you might have to set the view in Windows to display hidden folders if you don't see it). In ProgramData you will find a ShopBot\ShopBot 3\ folder. Click down to it and delete the shopbot.ini file (you may also have to set the view in Windows to show file extensions if you are not seeing file extensions). [It should also be possible to find this file with a search.]
After deleting the file, try restarting ShopBot. The software should ask you to chose a setting file appropriate for your tool, just like starting for the first time. Select your tool type ... and you should be off to the races.
** If running Vista or XP, the ShopBot\ShopBot 3\shopbot.ini file will be under Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
*** Otherwise, please give us a call and well try and step through with you to see what is happening in the install.

Oh, and I should have made sure you were a user with administrative privileges on the computer for that update.
Do note that our support guys check the phones and email several times a day, even on weekends and evenings ... they'll do their best to get back to you with a fix ... (and may have encountered this error -- I haven't).

Thanks for the reply Ted. I am running the software I have been running for years. I was not even trying to update. I am running 3.4.14. The last version that did not give me a response delay using the keyboard commands.
I now have the same problem on three different computers. I have reinstalled XP Pro OS three times on one computer. After a breif success jogging around or just trying to run a custom cut file I will get the same error. Run-Time error '6' and from that point on the control software will not load but comes up with the same error and fails.
I will call tomorrow to see if anyone can help me. I have run out of computers to test!

I deleted the .ini file. It was dated in 2009. Been a while since I changed anything!
The software still will not load and gives the error '6' message. After being stable for over ten years and then to have this happen to three computers in two days is frustrating to say the least.

Well I got the comment from tech support that you never like to hear from them or your doctor. "I have never seen that before."
One computer seems to be stable after reloading the XP Pro OS four times and being very careful which files were loaded onto the drive.
The first computer is in the dumpster after attempting to reload XP Home OS. Everything was lost and could not find the drivers for the misc hardware I had added over the years.
Bought a used computer with XP Pro OS. Everything loaded and seems to be good so far. Knock on wood.
I suspect a virus, but there is no way to know. How could the same problem migrate to three computers?
If I never see a run-time error 6 again, that would be fine with me.
