I have just got my PRT 48x96 up and running. It was a used machine and i have up graded it. I was wanting to ask this question about the size of a part to be cut. When you go into Partworks and put in the size you want say a 24x24 piece to get that exact size do you set it to the outside of the cut in partworks or does the size bit that you are going to use have any affect on setting up for the cut. Thanks

You specify the part size as 24 x 24.

When you go to the toolpath selection you then have the choice of
Inside the Vector
On the Vector
Outside the Vector
So bit dependant and your selection will determine the FINISHED size of your 24 x 24 part. I know clear as mud! :D Russ

In partworks you have to tell it what size bit you are using. When you draw a 24x24 part and want it if you use a .25 bit you tell partwork it is a .25 bit and you want to cut outside the line.

Hopefully the attached picture helps. Basically always cut outside the vector to get the part to be the size you've drawn it at.

If you are using Vectric software and it sounds like you are go to their site and watch some tutorials you will be miles ahead for spending the time to do so. You can also go to the help section and read through the instructions. I only say that because of your question not to be a smart butt.

I have learned a bunch from those tutorials and also from the videos that Shopbot has made and the good thing is it is all free it just takes time. You can pause and do these things on the computer as you go through the tutorials.
