I'm working close to my max Z, and can't figure out how to tell the contol not to pull up to 1", if I hit pause. This must be a variable?
Help?

Denis, bring up the fill-in sheet for cutter values (VC) and change the safe z pull-up.

Anytime i hit the pause button (spacebar) it stays right where it stops. It doesn't raise up unless i move it up, so i'm not clear on what you mean "when you hit pause"...you don't mean the E-Stop do you?

Mine retracts the 1 inch.

Desktop retracts to whatever the safe Z is set for in VcarvePro. Usually .2" for my programs.

Check the safe z value as shown by Scott.
If it is set at one inch there were a couple of releases that had an issue with safe z retraction on spacebar. You may have one of those versions. Go to 3.644 or 46. if on 3.6xx. If you've been running a 3.8 with no other issues go to 3.8.10.
If you are using 3.6 I wouldn't go to 3.8 yet.

Sorry to get slightly off-topic.Desktop new in August came with 3.8.4 (no problems till yesterday). Trying a new "drillmill" for cribbage peg holes and hit spacebar to check bit temp after a 100 holes. Bit did NOT retract to safe height(.2) and spindle did NOT stop. Lost contact with control box within ten seconds. Happened twice, once with Fein going, second time no DC, no compressor starting no nothing. What's up? Shop humidity 50%,temp 65 F.
Time to put my anti-static wheels on the wheelchair? Time to go to 3.8.10?

Will the VC command over write a parts file? Example: the file has safe z as 1 inch but at the machine i change it to .5.

not unless you recalculate it and resave it.

Rick, no it won't. It only comes into play with JH, spacebar, enter, or stop. Also with some older versions the z zero routine would call it up as a variable from the my_variables.sbc file. Now it uses a system variable for the safe z pull-up of %(28). You could edit the pp file for Aspire/VCP to utilize this if desired, but I generally just set it the same as what SB3 is.

Thats pretty much what i thought. A buddy does not have a lot of z so when I work with thicker stock i have to be careful

I have a 'Low rise' zzero file that I use when zeroing off the top of something near the upper limit. I have a upper limit prox switch also that save me from topping out. Need to implement something like Adrain has done here (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showpost.php?p=155568&postcount=10). Don't know where Dana's post is right off.
