Want to zero off the table to surface timber off the planer to finish at .750. Blanks are around .060 up. Tried searching the help file in Aspire but drew a blank. Can anyone point me in the right direction please????

Not sure i understand your problem? Do you mean that the material is .60 above the .750 point that you want them to end up at?

No the rough size Jack is around 0.810 and I want them to finish as close to .750 as I can to plonk into a dado. I realize this is pretty basic stuff however I have never zeroed off the table before. All I can do is lower my head and blush!!! Using the Amana insert surfacing cutter and as luck would have it, have no spare inserts. Going into hospital on Monday and trying to get heaps of Xmas stuff done so when I convalese at home for three weeks I can do light duty assembly. Well thats the same as "office work light duty" dont you reckon?

In Aspire say your material .9 and then mill it to a depth of.15 should get you to your .75. What ever your thickness is just take that and subtract your .75 from it and that will be be how deep you want to go.

Are these two places what you're looking for? Do it either when setting up a new job (recommended) or just before creating toolpaths.

And then toolpath as Jerry stated according to your material thickness

Just curious, why not just continue to use the planer and sneak up on the thickness until they slip into the dado? You'll have a much better surface than the swirls from the bot. If you don't have the material held down perfectly flat, you could easily have thin spots. Could also use a surface sander.

Scott - bit sad this story! Planer blades are as dull as and rollers need replacement so getting more snipe than usual. Yes normally I use the planer with a Wixey and finish on the sander but the bot only takes 2 minutes to do one surface. I'll have to find time for more attention to gear.

Scott - the insert cutters give a magnificent finish with two set just to give a smooth finish. All it needs is a few seconds on the Rotex.
