I just finished this mantel last week. It is the first mantel i have built, and rather enjoyed the project. It is made of 5/4 poplar and 3/4 birch ply it is 9' long. Due to its length i had to tile the carving and was fairly happy with the overall turnout. It was installed by its owner and i was happy to hear that it fit like a glove.:)
