my Win98 pc just died. i'm running a very early shopbot and need to get it going for a project that delivers in two days.
has anyone successfully ran the oldest version of SB control software in compatibility mode Win98 on an XP or Win7 machine? (right click properties/compatibility)
any advice is much appreciated. option 2 is driving 3 hours to buy a used win98 machine.

Don't think so.

DOS Version for PR ShopBots (also runs in Windows 95/98/ME; *this version can not be used with Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7/8)
If you have the Win 98 install disk, you could set up a dual boot situation.

i have an old win95 disc but no serial number to go with it.
i could up that on an xp pro machine that is currently a rip station. or could a dual boot be set up on a fresher pc?
I run 3.4.27 on both Win98 and Win XP with no issues. I have a 2001 PRT. I haven't used the DOS control software so I don't know if it would be a huge adjustment to learn the Windows version but my guess is it's not that different other than having a visual menu system.

Alan,
You can actually download DOS these days for nothing. Alternates include DOSBOX (a DOS emulator that runs under windows), NX_DOS, etc.
Another to maybe consider is DOS-on-USB, which lets you boot to DOS from a thumbdrive.
A Google search will give you any info needed on these.
Hope this helps - even after the 2-3 hour drive, where are you going to find a Win 98 machine? Someone sill have one?

thanks for all the info. looks like several options that will work. this boot from a flash drive is interesting. i'll read up on that too. of course, there's still the matter of the rs32 port. a usb to rs32 adapter would be in order. curious if there would be issues with the controller finding the usb/rs32 port(?)
thanks again!

I'm on the southwest side of Houston and if you can't get yours fixed or if you are up against the wall of time, I can cut for you.
