View Full Version : Z-axis moving slowly after spacebar stop

Hi everyone,

I've got a Desktop with the spindle. While starting up a cut file, I realized that the spindle was going to collide with a clamp, so I hit the spacebar just after the bit began spinning but before the bit had entered the material, and avoided the collision.

But now, when I try to move the Z-axis via the ShopBot software, it moves super slow, about 1/10th of its ordinary speed. The X- and Y-axes move normally.

When I went to re-zero the Z-axis, it moves at normal speed. However, anytime I try driving the spindle via the software, it moves slowly. I tried restarting both the ShopBot and the computer, but nothing has changed. Am afraid to try running a cut file because of whatever may be wrong with the Z-axis movement.

Anyone have any idea A) What caused this, and B) what I can do to rectify? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

thanks,

- Nick

I would try rebooting the computer and the shopbot but this time go and disconnect the shopbot from your power at the wall or circuit breaker. The problem that has happened to me in the past is that you get some setting screwed up and the shopbot holds that in its memory even if you reboot, the only way to clear it out is to remove the power from the memory on the board.

Keep in mind you will lose all your other settings like your x,y,z so write those down before you do this.

Nick, sure someone will chime in soon that knows more than me, but have yo done a VS and checked your settings haven't changed? Spacebar during Z plunge can do do funky things. What version are you running? If you haven't customized stuff too much you can do a UR(reset defaults) But I've only had to do it once and you may want to wait for another opinion.

Nick,

Often, when stopping a file like you describe, the move speed settings don't revert to the settings that were in set in the Command Console window like they do when a file ends normally and can stay at what they were set at in the file. So, if the Z axis move settings in the file were slow, that is what the console settings are now at. If you highlight the Z axis speed setting, you can type in what it should be, hit enter, and you should be back to normal. The default settings for your desktop should be as shown.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, will file them all away for future reference.

I started off with Scott W.'s suggestion, and sure enough, the Z-axis "Move" was set to 0.10. Changed it back to 1.00 and now everything works normally.

Now to figure out a new clamping solution....

I just recently bought a desktop. The other day I made a boo boo and unplugged the unit to do the same thing you wanted to do. At the rear of the unit is an led that will stay lit for an amazing period of time. also I know from past experience that the capacitors in you speed control will hold a charge for much longer that what you think they might.
