View Full Version : Mozaik Software for cabinet design
Off Topic.....
Does anyone here have experience (good or bad - would like both) using Mozaik Software cabinet design package. This includes all the modules including the tablet part.
I have a hunch that Thermwood might be abandoning SBLink and I need an alternative to go with.
Thanks!!!

Are they still charging monthly?
I'm interested, as I'm sure a lot of others are, in why you have that hunch.
On another subject Artcam express may have the cabinetmakers module available and if not Insignia may come with it. I know Pro does but that's another deal altogether from Express or Insignia. The cabinetmakers module was created originally as a plug in so you could import from the standard cabinetmaker programs like KCDW and put out nested parts toolpathed like you want.

Don,
I've been considering Mozaik for a while - just have a hard time signing on for a lifetime of payments - I want to buy software, not become business partners.
Asked for a quote to buy outright: $20,000. I realize you can pay as you go - skip a month here and there, but what's the likelihood that you'll monitor it that tight? Minimum 3 month sign up = $450 to try it out. The biggest attraction for me is the editing section which utilizes the Sketchup platform, so I think it should be a breeze.
As with Thermwood, you need to re-build your entire database to your building methodology if you do not like theirs. I've decided to tough it out with Sketchup for now, but could really use an automated nesting /toolpathing method without an additional $1,800 in overhead per year. Maybe I'm underestimating the value of it.
Have you tried Cabinet Parts Pro?
Still debating...
Jeff
Thanks Jeff.
I'm just looking at all my options right now.
I know that Thermwood added a few features to the new version of eCabinets that are not, and supposedly will not, be supported by SBLink. This is telling me TWD is leaning away from continuing support for SBLink and will be focusing on their line of CNC's, which I totally understand. I know they didn't sell very many SBLink packages.

Don.
Hang on a little bit and watch what Ryan comes through with on cpp. He has added a lot.
Kennith,
He just put out a new release from what I saw. Is that the one you are talking about?
I'm going over his training videos right now to see what all is involved with CPP. The thing I am struggling with is the LARGE amount of screens and dialogs to have to go through to set options and parameters. I also watched the video on changing between imperial and metric measurements and the work involved scared me a bit. A lot of manual changing of stuff. I can see forgetting something and driving a bit all the way through my spoil board and plenum into the steel table supports. Scary  I also have the trial version of CPP installed and am playing with it as I go through the tutorials.
I will probably try Mozaik Design for 90 days and see how it works. I can always cancel after that if it is to difficult.

I have been emailing him all weekend. You know the screen to set up materials.... picture a button that will apply it to all cabinets. Picture the same button for dado settings ect.... There is more....

Hi Don,
Tried Mozaik and my experience with owner was not terrific. Seems like a very small company (but may grow?) that you will be hitching yourself to.
After talking with another larger shop owner we both concluded that it was not for either of us and I bailed after a week into it. No refund.
Aside from my own personal gripes, I hesitate having to rent a program that is tied to one or two individuals. Should they fold their tent where's that leave you?
Thanks Tim. Feedback like that is very important. I'm getting feedback from other people saying fantastic to not so fantastic.
Interesting how response to this program is all over the map. I wonder if the owners, of the company, are aware of this and how they are addressing it.

I'll echo the first line in Tim's post.
Additionally, I found there to be far too many steps to produce a set of drawings. Our typical job has several rooms, each typically needing several revisions. It was time prohibitive to try to produce these drawings in Mozaik. The people at Mozaik didn't want to hear that. In my limited experience, they were lousy to deal with. The software certainly has plenty of positive feedback out there though.
It sounds like the problems may be mostly with the people who own/run the company versus the software itself.
That is really to bad. I wonder if they are aware of their reputation getting around the industry.
