This year we are introducing a NYC area Camp ShopBot to be held on Saturday, May 10! Our host is Mark Rosen from The School of the Visual Arts' Fine Arts Sculpture Department (http://www.sva.edu/undergraduate/fine-arts). His department has a PRS Alpha with a vacuum table and tool changer. Lucky students! Mark teaches undergrads how to use their machine and does all kinds of crazy sculpture projects. This will be a great camp for educators and also for those wanting to see the machine pushed to its limits.

Camps are free! Register using our Google Form. This ensures that we have enough chairs and food for everyone and also lets you tell us which topics most interest you, such as 3-D carving or machine maintenance or software-related questions.

We have about 70 people signed up so far for the NYC area Camp! :D We'd like to extend a 'Call for Guest Presenters' to all who have registered. If you use your ShopBot in a particular way not often seen or have honed a specific technique that you think others would benefit from learning about or are a teacher whose students are doing some amazing work, we'd like to encourage you to share your experiences. Sharing is good karma, and adds to the local ShopBot knowledge economy!

What we are looking for:
Around 20-minute computer-based power point or similar computer program presentation with good photographs illustrating the technique(s) you use or commissions and/or projects you do (or students have done). Your presentation should be concise and thought out. There will be a 10-minute Q&A following each presentation. We are looking for 2 guest presentations.

How to apply:
Please email the CampShopbot at Gmail dot com address a brief paragraph about yourself and a paragraph about the topic you want to cover. Include 3-4 images of your work (or website links to images) that illustrate your topic. (Low res image files only please!)

Deadline for submissions is Monday, April 28. Let us know if you have any questions. :)

NYC Camp UPDATE: If you bring a project for the Show and Tell you will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a sweet ShopBot hat, mouse pad or tshirt! We will have a few of each so there will be multiple chances to win!

Also- Our NYC guest presenter is Gustavo Bonet who runs Nodus, a studio that assists clients in their design challenges, documentation process, product development/ prototyping and fabrication needs. Gustavo will discuss texture and patterning techniques: Creating tool paths, types of bits, types of materials and other hints and tips will be presented along with issues that arise when making this sort of work.

See you Saturday!
