This weekend Tina and I was at the Indiana Craft Market in Indianapolis Indiana. One of the other artist that was next to us while setting up made a comment that maybe he had made a mistake being in a juried show that require people to pay to get in. I went over and explained to him The fee that is charged stops people that are only out to have something to do and have no intentions of buying anything. Anyone that Pays to get in is there to buy top quality products. By it being a juried show you eliminate the yard sale items and the China made items. You eliminate all but the best. By being juried you are viewed as the best of the best. The Indiana show turned out to be a very profitable show for us even with out booth fee and our Motel bill we still made a really good profit we picked up one huge wholesale account and I mean huge wholesale account, and several other wholesale accounts not counting our retail sales that paid well over our expenses.
all juried shows are the best of the best shows. People come to buy not look. If someone is paying to get in they have money to spend. Boy did the people at this show have money to spend. all of our high end items sold withing 4 hours of the first day. just in credit card orders we were over 2,000.00 and only our high end products was put on the credit card. the rest was cash. I ran out of 10's and 20's both days and had to go get more.
Get Juried,
If any of you live in Indiana let me know and if you want to get juried there send me a private message at eking1953@yahoo.com and I will put you in touch with the people there. Indiana program is a great program...

by the way while we were there Tina and I got to see the Ky wildcats play ball. I got these two messages over the wildcats lol

Gene,
you need to go to Texas now we need a championship this year LOL.

Hi Eugene,
Sounds like you had a great time in Indianapolis. Very glad to hear it. If you were the Wildcats good luck charm, I sure wish you could make it down to Texas. J

...And the "LookyLoo's"
It is so aggrivating to have something that you have put several hours of work into only to have someone say..."you want how much for that?

Jack you are right.. they are not there to look or try to get you to drop your price. they are there to buy good quality products.
I had the carved barrel tops and the carved coat hangers with us. The barrel tops sold for $300.00 each and the coat hangers sold for $275 each... We sold totally out of them. No one even asked if we would take less they just ask if we take plastic...

I have a small bakery, and we sell at a few shows around christmas and we get the people who go "I can make that at home" when their kids ask to buy something. My favorite response from the kids is "yeah mom, you can make it, but you won't" They usually walk away with a few loafs :)

I do the Portland OR Sportsman Show the 2nd largest on the West Coast. The people that get me say it is made out of plastic that is too much. $180 a sheet I guess I should use plywood maybe they could relate to the cost better. The fact is they are not my buyer anyway but many times they are holding an $8 beer. I do very well at that show it cost them $12 to enter and $8 to park. We pay $1200 for a 10x10 booth for 5 days but thousands of people attend.

When I retire from my day job hopefully next year I plan to attend many more shows around the West Coast.

All we do is juried the others are a waste of time. Some I demo carve at chainsaw not shopbot I get my space for free at those and a few actually pay me to attend and sell.

It has taken a few years to really know what shows sell.
