The grandchildren were over last weekend to help sand and finish this gift for there mom
Used the dowel spacing in the spoil board to do 2 sided engraving
light sanding , 3 coats clear shellac , fine steel wool in between coats

Very nice. Bet their mom will love it.. Hope you did one for your wife. If not you may need to sleep in the dog house for a while.

Certainly putting good use to Bill Y's wedging top:) Forgot you could 2-side around his dowel holes. Came out nice Bob! Shame on you for giving your grand kids a good shellacking. :)

Thanks Eugene , Scott , Bob for the kind words

I tried some 3D and 2d in aluminum , out of some scraps I had around
I used a 1/8" up end mill to clear material , then a 1/16" ball with a 7% step over , 8000 rpm ,

Bob, on aluminum-What hold down method? Curious about depth of cut on the 1/16" tapered? Nice scraps:)

Scott

Again I used Bill Y wedge table ,

I did a Z level roughing with a 1/8" end mill , then used the 1/16" 4 flute ball nose feed 1" @ 8000 rpm during the cut I put a drop of oil with eye dropper 3 X and it seemed to cut ok

Didn't think the wedging top would work for that. Good to know, got to get mine cut but need to get Maker Crate done as Desktop butts directly against wall and not enough Y to cut. Putting threaded inserts at midpoint between his dowel holes though so I can use cam clamps and Incra type clamps as well as slotted fences that I can trim with machine. Is Bill's 1.5" between dowels good spacing? Looks like it's working real well for you. Thanks for pics.

1.5" spacing seems to be ok for most things

added a feature to the long fence with the pen for indexing work in Y

Bob, Whose pen is that, and with only 4"Z would it draw on 1/2" stock(1/4" wood with 1/4" ply or masonite underneath? I have safe Z and home Z set at .2" Thanks
