Hi I just thought I would show off some of the Dog Tags that I have made using my ShopBot,
some of the tags I made for some friends of mine who play Battlefield 3,
other tags I just made for gifts or for the fun of it :).
I engraved them on Stainless Steel 18 gauge.

Very nice - what bit are you using for the stainless? I've always been under the impression that Aluminum would be the hardest alloy we could carve with our 'bots.

You can cut stainless with it as long as you have the right bits and Feeds & Speeds and if you spindle can handle the load.
on a standard router spindle I am unsure of the load it will handle.

I have a ShobBot PRS Standard (Buddy) here is the type I have and it has no problems running it.

This is where I get my bits
Part # 36125TL its a 1/8" V-Bit Carbide Engraving Cutters - 60° with
AlTiN COATING.

Here is the setting I run with the bit.
NOTE the clearance pass setting are for cutting out a fine pocket with the bit like with the 3D tags
I made and the Pass depth is the maximum I would run on the bit with one pass
I only cut a maximum depth of 0.005" deep specs on bit will handle 0.010
but I don't like to run that much.
I also put some tap-magic on the metal before cutting and some during the cut to reduce wear on the bit.

you can set the pass depth to 0.001 to reduce your spindle load
and set you profile pass to 0.005 and it will just run the tool 5 times
on the profile to engrave it but it still works.

I hope this information helps,

What is your machine time doing the 3d tags? Have you tried them in aluminum? Do you mind saying what you are getting for the 3d tags? They look really nice. I'm sure they would be a nice custom gift for someone.

machine time is about 30 to 45 minutes depending on the detail of the tags and as for selling them I haven't sold any yet just made some for some friends and family.
