Please HELP! I have messed up my first 3d roughing cut really badly, and I don't know why.....
The two attachments show the part I was going to cut. I had programmed Aspire to make .25" passes with a 1/2" end mill. Instead, on the first pass, the bit plunged all the way through my 1.25" thick MDF (for test cutting purposes, later to be made from good wood), and cut .25" deep into my table top! YIKES!
They say you are supposed to turn the machine off as soon as it makes bad noises,,,,, well, I heard terrible squealing and knew something was really wrong. But instead of hitting the stop button, I stupidly grabbed for my ear protectors. And for the mountains of sawdust that piled up, I didn't realize what was happening until maybe 30 seconds, by which time, I had ruined my test piece...:(
My first reaction was that I had not set up my model to zero from the top of the material. But the two attached screen shots show my Job Setup and Material Setup were both set to zero off of the top of the material. However, until a week ago, I did have my model set up to zero from the table top. But since I am used to zeroing off of the material top, and it is a big hunk of flat material, with plenty of surrounding waste, I saw no problem in zeroing off the top. So somehow, did that change not propagate through?
Also, in the Material Setup panel, note the Modeling Plane Z shows as -1.25 inches. Would that indicate my problem? I wasn't worried about the Model Position in Material panel, even though it looks bad with 0" gap above and below the model, because my model is really only 1" thick, except for the high spot of the foot which gets to be 1.4" thick. But I sliced the model into 1.25" slices, and figured I would just glue the little bit of foot on by hand.
I have the Shopbot file and will send that to anyone who may want to see it.
I thank anyone who is willing to look and figure out what I have messed up! Thank you very much!!!!!! Chuck
