I'm moving to a new location and my question is....
Can I have a 220v plug install where I need it or do you have to hardwire it?

Feel free to hook it to a plug. I use a 4 wire 50A on my BT-32, its worked since the first day it got power on it. Thats been several years now. ;)

You wont have any problem as a result, and its easier to move, and pull the plug for safety if you need to do any work in the control box.

Shopbot seem to err really high on this probably to be safe particularly on overseas sales. We use 32 amp on 220 and have never stalled the spindle or tripped a breaker. I think its great to be able to pull out the plug when storms and lightning are predicted.

Yeah, when the electrician wired in my Buddy (Alpha, with a 4HP spindle) I got him to put two twist lock plugs - one very large one for the 240V circuit and a smaller one for the 120V.

I have a few other pcs of stationary equipment (even my 240V, 3 phase 7.5 HP planer) that are on a twist lock plug VS a standard disconnect and hard wired.

In my old shop where everything was 600V three phase, we had three twist lock plugs for the mobile dust collectors, so they could be moved around if required.

Its is completely fine, and up to code assuming the plugs are rated properly.

mine also is on two plugs . It comes in handy when electrical storms are in the forecast .
