View Full Version : Question for the DeskProto Users: Indexing with Waterline Strategy

I tried the waterline toolpath strategy for my new spiral kitchen table legs on the indexer and found that Deskproto forgot to lift the bit up at the end of the roughing toolpath before returning to zero. It cut through the whole length of the leg but fortunately this was only a test with cheaper redwood.

Is there a setting to avoid it or is that a software bug?

Thanks, GB

Finishing is still running, I will post a pic when done.

I've had toolpaths that refused to cooperate properly. No idea what causes it as I can't reproduce it in different situations.

I usually just jump into the code and manually set the Z to safe height after the last move. 2 seconds, easy fix.

Just had the "duh!" moment.

The problem is in the postprocessor. While the main Deskproto software actually lifts the bit out of the way, the postprocessor adds a movement to go to z=1 at the end and then to the coordinate origin. That makes some sense for flat machining with z-zero on top of the material surface but none at all for rotary with z-zero on the rotation axis.

So far I did not notice because all the parts that I made were smaller than 2" diameter. Fortunately this is an easy fix.
