I have made a window seat that sits over my heat/ac vent, I have it vented through the kicker on the seat but I did not finish the inside of the kicker.
So, do you think this will be a problem with the wood getting too dry?
P.S. The face frame on the window seat is kiln dried Aspen.
Kyle,
I've done many home office remodels facing this issue. I created a plenum above the floor vent which I sealed with conversion varnish and when installed, I caulked all seams to insure air tight. On the toe kick I installed a vent.
I've not had any call backs on this method. The first one I installed was around 2002. Still going good.
I think not having any finish might cause the wood to really dry out. Not sure if it would create any structural problems or not.

It is not load baring, but I think I will uninstall and paint the inside.
