Is there a way to change the Z-zero to a certain depth below the surface of your material?

David...
Yes. one way is to enter a number in the “start depth” option when tool-pathing.
Another would be to Zero to the top of your material, move off the material, lower the bit the desired amount an re-zero.
Each method has it’s purpose, If you still aren’t sure, give us more details of what you’re trying to accomplish!

In using this method you need to keep in mind your "safe Z" height setting. You don't want to re-zero at -.5 below your material surface if you have a safe Z height setting of .25 because you will still be below your material surface and damage your work.

If you just need to tweak it just a little (up to 0.5), try Move Nudge (MN).

I think the best way to handle this is with the start depth. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I do only want to adjust it slightly.

Careful David! Setting a start depth on something like an 1/8" shank 90 vbit at .1" will ruin a whole .3 seconds.
