What is Marketing. Well the dictionary defines Marketing as this.

(Marketing is the process of communicating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communication) the value of a product or service to customers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Customers), for the purpose of selling that product or service.
Marketing can be looked at as an organizational (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organizational) function and a set of processes for creating, delivering and communicating value to customers, and customer relationship management (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Customer_relationship_management) that also benefits the organization. Marketing is the science (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science) of choosing target markets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_markets) through market analysis and market segmentation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_segmentation), as well as understanding consumer behavior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_behavior) and providing superior customer value. From a societal point of view, marketing is the link between a society's material requirements and its economic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic) patterns of response. Marketing satisfies these needs and wants through exchange processes and building long term relationships.)

Marketing is communicating the value of your Product or service to the customer in order to sale your product or Ones self.
To be able to sale your product or your service you first have to believe in Your self and Your product or work. In Gaining a customer You have to first sale your self and then your Product or services. In Most sales you have less time than what it takes to ride a elevator from the first floor to the 10th floor. In That small time frame You have to sale Your self and gain the interest of your customer in order to sale your product or service. I call this my elevator speech. Develop one for your product or service.

When going after customers You have to identify your target market, You have to understand your target market, You have to know and be able to show your target Market the benefit of why they should carry your product or why they should use your services.

Sales are sales, no matter what your product or services are. All sales are gained or lost in the time frame of a short elevator ride.
When going to a sales meeting with a new customer keep it short and to the point. Their time is valuable. You will only have the short time to grab their attention and to be able to continue with your pitch. Be prepared, Have a Port-folio of your work , samples of your work, Satisfied customer list.

Know what your customers needs are, Know what product or service that you have that will benefit which customer. There is no need to try to sale a Kids toy in a Cigar shop so to speak. Sale cigar boxes to cigar shops.

Our sales directly link to the economy, When the economy is booming sales are much easier, when the economy is weak sales are harder and fewer to come by, but there are still sales out there. During the the good times you have to knock on 100 doors to get one customer, however during bad times you have to knock on 400 doors to get one customer.

Develop a reputation of being the best and having the best product. Have customers that do not mind you using them as a reference.

Always Make things right for your customer (even if it is their fault.) Stand behind Your product or service, The old adage that the customer is always right is the best policy.

TRY to come up with a sales pitch that Makes Your customer believe that he or she can not live without your product of service.

Go dressed as if you are going to church, Be presentable, Be ready to answer quickly and honestly.

Identify ways to convey to your customer the value of your product or service in a way that they think I can not do without this mans product or service.

Identify why they should carry your product, does it fit into their budget, their customer base, The region, Basically is it for their market.

These are all food for thought, My offer to talk to anyone is always open.
