I still have a day job - and anyone who has sat in an office know it can be debilitating...it is said that "sitting is the new smoking". I am wondering if anyone has any plans for a DYI sit-stand desk - in my case it would have to be in addition to my desk - see http://www.varidesk.com/index.php/varidesk-single-plus - can't seem to get these guys here at the office to spend the money...think I'll make my own...I appreciate any help.

I know you can search quite a few options online. Search sit-to-stand desks and you will find a series of options. Bolt-on systems can also be purchased that work with your existing desk.

I would ask if you to consider if you want a manual or powered style system. Manual are hand crank style or adjusting pins after lifting a table. The powered use a motor to drive a linear actuator, leadscrew, belt system, screw jack or winch to move the desk.

I have a little experience in this area from my day job. PM me if you have some additional questions.

Dick, Just so I don't forget--But Dad just commissioned Jonas(our Amish furniture building friend) to build him a standing desk. Don't forget to ask him Saturday. :)

Here’s an Idea I never finished… My intent was to hinge the sides to the front to aid assembly of the top or desk surface into the proper slot. I don’t know if the work surface is appropriate or not, it’s just something I thought about in the middle of the night and never followed up on. The bottom of the desk surface has dados to help lock the top into the sides. If you or anyone else can perfect the idea, It’s all yours!

The .crv file as is, is here

Thank you Steve, Scott and Kevin! Kevin I had done a google search and came up with a lot of ideas for sure - Scott, I 'll speak with your dad on Saturday when we are in Portland - Steve, thank you for the design, this looks simple enough to make and doesn't need a motor or cranks!! I let you know what I end up making.

A couple things you may want to keep in mind, from my perspective.
I have a torn bicep muscle and torn rotator cuff and arthritis in my neck.So i don't want to hunch my shoulders or bend my neck.

What i would do is stand next to a wall, arms down, shoulders relaxed, bending at the elbows and mark that height.
This would be the height you want your keyboard at..

Then i would, with my neck straight, looking forward mark the height of my eyes. This would be the height you would want the center of your monitor at.

Then build your base for the keyboard and shelf for the monitor wit those two measurements.

I can't imagine bending my neck at an angle all day would be comfortable.
