To all;

The Austin Camp Shopbot will be held this February 27 & 28, the last Friday and Saturday of the month.

The Friday meeting will be much more informal and more hands on. Saturday will be more formal. The Friday Camp will begin at 10AM and the Saturday camp will begin at 9AM. As always the camp is free and includes coffee, drinks and lunch.

There will be presentations on the indexer, 3d cutting and design, Scculpt Nouveau and other topics of interest. As always "Show and Tell" is a major component of the camp, so bring some of your work.

I would beg anyone who uses the Shopbot in a unique, unusual or just cool way and would like to give a more detailed presentation than the "Show and Tell" I would really like to hear from you.

Also, let me know of any ideas or special topics you would like to see addressed.

The camp will be at my shop in Southwest Austin just off of Hwy 290 at:
9000 Feather Hill Rd.
Austin, TX 78737.

If you are planning on attending I would appreciate an email so that I can get an idea of attendance.

We will have two extreme newbies attending your camp. If anyone is interested in helping us get up and running we would love the help! This is a great forum so I am sure that our guys are going to come home with good info and be all fired up to put our machine to use...

I may be a little late ( IF I can even get there...) as I just got to the airport and found that my flight to Austin has been canceled due to today's blizzard, and they failed to send out notices to all of us... I am hoping to catch the first flight out of here tomorrow, and if that works I'll be there around Noon....

billp

Still not looking good in terms of flights. They canceled my first flight today, and the airport is now closed until at least 2 PM ( my next alleged flight is at 3:15 and only if the plane coming in from Dallas can land...)SO there is a good chance I may not make this one...
If anyone planning to attend has a computer projector they might want to bring it would sure make things easier. If not we'll have to rent one locally...If you have one please contact Wayne. Thanks !

OK, I can't get there from here apparently as they just canceled the latest flight ( and last theoretically scheduled for today...). SO I will not be able to join in on the festivities this weekend...
I'd ask that anyone who takes pictures at the Camp please send me a copy ( and a brief explanation of what you took the picture of...)so I can post them on the Camp Flickr page.
Have a great Camp !

They have now rescheduled my flight to Austin for MONDAY the 1st of March so I know I'm not gonna make it.....

Austin pix !!!
Randy Rice was kind enough to send us a bunch of pictures he took at the Camp. I've posted them on the Camp Flickr page; http://www.flickr.com/photos/campshopbot/
Some of them are missing captions because I don't have info on them. If anyone can fill me in, please do so . ( And no, I have NO idea about the bat either...)

The bat was a demo done at the camp. Pilot error resulted in the text being backwards. It looks great in a mirror.

Thanks to everyone who attended the camp. I enjoyed it immensely and learned some new things which I intend to use.

That was a bat? I thought it was a rolling pin to put a logo in the dough!

Ken,
You have management potential.....

03-04-2010, 06:40 PM
ken,
my guess was similar to you only I thought something different. Do you remember from grade school or high school these machines called "mimeograph" printers (mim-e-o-graph) machines that rolled over a paper and printed the page. I can still recall the smell of that ink, can you? That was what that carving remindd me of.

zeykr
03-05-2010, 08:06 AM
Jack,
I remember the mimeograph, though not the ink smell.

hh_woodworking
03-06-2010, 05:17 PM
Jack I think you were referring to the "Ditto machine" using a spirit master that use a alcohol based solvent to remove the ink from the master. Mimeograph was a process that used a stencil and the same inks as offset printing. no smell

More Texas pictures!!!
Mike Kelley has just sent in some of his pictures from the Austin Camp, and I've added them to the Flickr page;http://www.flickr.com/photos/campshopbot/
Sorry for not having more details, but again if anyone attending wants to drop me a note I'll add captions where needed...
Thanks Mike !!!

I really like putting a face to a name when you see the guys you talk to on here at the camps. It's interesting to see some of the things they are working on.
