Here is a project we did a few months back. dimensions are 5'x5'.

Very nicely done - I really like the pattern. Yet another thing to try - (so many capabilities, so little time.)

Looks like you prepped the panel in the shop then installed into a floor, correct?
Also, do the light (maple) pieces stand a bit proud, requiring a boatload of sanding?

Correct. It was installed after completion in our shop.
Everything was surfaced flush on the bot.

vacuum hold down for cherry blank. free weights and dumbbells to clamp the maple

It was just a customer preference. Figured it was easier than trying to line it up perfectly to the floor lines.
