Hello,
I am working with a client who is using Adobe Illustrator and sending me .eps files of some signage. I cant open the attached email files nor the files off of a flash drive. I get a dialog box stating that "cannot open the file" and "maybe there is only bitmap information in the file". Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, I know it's not photoshop, but could it be "gradients and fills" Like in this guys problem?

That's odd my guy sent me an eps file and an ai.
Ai worked eps gave me the error, he told me that he just saved as different formats but he must be doing something else will ask tomorrow.

I've seen gradients and line size and fills all mess up Illustrator files for import.

Check that the actual source of the graphics is not bitmap based as well. If someone imports a bitmap and then saves it as EPS then it's still a bitmap.

As others have said most of the time it's fills etc that are the issue if the source graphics are vector based.

Thanks for all the responses. I also posted this on the Aspire forum and received similar responses. I believe it is the fill colors that may be the problem. I am requesting my client to send me just the clean vectors without the color. I will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks,
Mark

If the file is originally an AI file notice that the latest versions of illustrator will export several different versions of EPS files. Try one of the earlier versions.

All,
I have also posted this on the Aspire forum.
I received the stripped down files from my client but still can't open them. If any of you can open them and figure out what is causing my problem I would greatly appreciate it.

I tried to upload the files but the .ai file wasn't accepted and the .eps was to large for the forum. If any of you have time to look at these files PM me with an email address and I will send them to you.

Thanks,
Mark

It might be related to the options selected when the file was exported. It is easy to just click taking all the defaults.

I see this problem all the time. My normal fix is to import the .eps fine into Corel Draw then export it out for Aspire.
