I need to replace a moisture meter. Does anyone have any recommendations or opinions on a quality moisture meter?
Thanks in advance.
Jim
this one is VERY good, I used it in conjunction with my thermal camera to verify moisture.
It has non-destructive testing or the pin option for better accuracy.
Tip: Metal in an object will give a false positive when using the ball sensor.
Very fast and worth the money.

Thank you for the information. That is the same brand that I am replacing, although a different model. I don't know if I'm willing to give them another try or not.

I feel your pain with "General Tools". I've come to the opinion they make stuff as cheaply as possible and you either get something good or bad and the percentage of bad is way too high. I think the big box stores ruined them. I've about decided when it comes to test equipment if HD or Lowes carries it, go find something else.
I have a Lingomat that has been working great. I've heard Dawson is supposed to be good, but I know nothing about them.

I have been using a pin type meter for years. Its OK but its very hard to get the penetration in a lot of the hard woods I use, and usually the pins end up being in the middle of a board I want to use the face of..
At the past IWF show in Atlanta I bought a pin-less RF moisture meter from the manufacturer who had a display.

Its a little pricey but seems to work very well and it is fast. You do have to set it for the specie of wood and the thickness you want to measure but then it is quick to scan several planks all over the surface to see what the % moisture is.

Thank you both. I'll take a look.

We use this one. It's very well built, well priced and claimed to be very accurate but, as Andrew says, pushing it into hardwood is not an easy task.
