when ya really don't want to do anything but you don't want to do nothing either.
Not specifically Shopbot related but I figure there are enough old fogies on this forum to know what I'm talking about. I'm just wanting to do something so long as I don't have to do anything to do it.
So, what do you do?

You look back, find something you Loved to do when you were younger, but it either didn't pay the bills,OR your younger self didn't have the patience required.
And fall in Love again:)

I think the guitar is going to win out today.... going to sit down and play until I can't play any more.

You know, the last time I felt this way I did this...

Now, that was a fun day! I think it firmly classifies me in the "redneck" category but hey, I've been called worse.

Hm, hm, Perhaps something slightly less violent Harry, if I may be Ever so cautiously polite to suggest( I like my body/house/Desktop unriddled:).

OR maybe go fishing like previously suggested (1/4 sticks of TNT should be relaxing:)

You can:
1) Organize your arrowhead collection.
2) Clean something.
3) Don't just do something. Sit there. ;)
This is normal, especially at this time of year. It's a natural thing...what goes up must come down...everything in the universe is a frequency or wave. (This is why it's called the uni-verse). It's important to relax, be retrospective and to sharpen the proverbial saw.
Enjoy it!

I resemble that remark, and proud of it! ;)
That's got my vote, beats a nap any day!

When I am either totally fed up with projects or just don't want to do anything that is a task, I go out and turn a segmented bowl. I enjoy doing that and when they do sell they sell for a good price. My wife has more bowls around the house that she has started selling them on Etsy.... Just sold an old segmented vase that had shrunk on the base than very top pieces (they were Amazon Rainforest wood) but the guy really wanted it for $300....

ohh, I like that... the first part with the tanks, I can stay home and watch my own cars rust so no need for a trip to the junkyard.
I'll be in MN later this year again... I'm thinking that's something that's going to happen!

I'm trying to finalize that part of my schedule for the year. Last year I was in MN during the camp and may be there again (and will go tank driving too!), I don't know the dates yet. If I make it though it'd be good to say hello again. I think the last time I saw you in person as in Durham in 2010. Time flies.

Well, when I want to keep one of my "choice" students busy, I have a part file saved that I can easily call up to cut from some scrap. The settings are 18,000rpm, .75ips, .005" cut depth. I throw in a junk harbor freight bit and push go. I sit him or her down with the stop switch and tell them they are responsible for a $26,000 machine. If something looks like it is going to go wrong push the button. This usually keeps them occupied for the hour and allows them to cool off...
SO, you could design a widget and do the same...
