When cutting pine I seem to run about 80 degrees and perfect cuts, I switched to MDF with the same feeds and I'm running about 120 degrees, its warm when I grab the bit... is this normal?

Its set about 2.17ips at 13k rpm which is taken from the onsrud techs recommendations for their chipload and 1/8" pass depths

I'm using a 2" 120degree onsrud Vbit.

MDF tends to cut hotter than natural materials because it doesn't form a chip as easily. The chip is what takes the heat away from the cutter. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

awesome, thanks for the info, it had me worried even though it wasn't uncomfortably warm.

I ended up talking with Onsrud, they recommended dropping my speed down to 10k to lower the amount of hits.

i cut lots of mdf, i use 3 ips, 9000rpm and .25 cut depth that works great.
